In order to make our School Council successful and to become exceptional councillors, Miss Nevitt organised a trip to the Council House to meet the Lord Mayor.

On the 4th December, Miss Nevitt, Mrs Hunter, our School Council and a School Governor travelled into the City Centre for a tour of the Council House and to find out why being a Councilor is a vital role.

At 9am we left school and travelled by train to the Council House where we were greeted by the Lord Mayor's aide. The Lord Mayor's assistant led us into the Lord Mayor's Suite where we waited for the Lord Mayor to be introduced to us. Once the Lord Mayor arrived, he took us on a tour of the Council House which included the Banqueting Suite, the Lord Mayor's Parlour, the Lady Mayoress Office, and the Council Chamber.

In the Council Chamber, the Lord Mayor allowed us to sit in his chair and answered our questions about what a council does and why it is so important. He also gave us some valuable advice about what makes a good Councilor. This included:

• Be a good listener,
• Be a good communicator,
• Be able to work in a team,
• Be understanding.

Later, we went back to the Lord Mayor's Suite where we had juice and biscuits. The Lord Mayor gave us all a badge to show that we had visited the Town Hall. He commended us on exemplary behaviour and said that we'd had some very good questions.

The trip was extremely valuable and made us understand that our School Council is an important role as we are the 'voice' of the pupils in Yenton Primary!
